WATERVILLE, Maine – Men's lacrosse goalie C.J. Layton and midfielder Colton Michel were named to the NEILA All-Region Academic Team for the 2019 season. The team comprises seniors across divisions and conferences that maintained at least a 3.0 g.p.a. during their collegiate career and played at a high enough level to be nominated for all-conference honors.
Layton, an economics major, finished this past season season with a 56.3% save percentage, leading the Mules to their first NESCAC playoff berth since 2015. For a five game stretch this season, he recorded save percentages over 60%. Layton finished his career at Colby with a 54.4% save percentage and totaled 485 saves over 37 games. In addition to his All-Region academic recognition, Layton was honored as an All-American, was named to the All-NESCAC First Team and All New England Second Team, and was asked to play in the North / South All-Star Game.
Michel, also an economics major, scored 21 goals in 11 games for the Mules this year and added 12 assists to total 33 points. Notably, he scored the game winning overtime goal against Trinity to cap off a big come-from-behind win for Colby.
