Men's soccer battles tough against Ephs, falls on header goal

WATERVILLE, Maine -- A sequence off a deep throw-in for Williams College gave the Ephs the lone score of the game in a 1-0 victory over Colby College in NESCAC men's soccer Saturday.

The Ephs (3-0 overall, 2-0 NESCAC) play at Bowdoin College at noon. The Mules (1-2 overall, 0-2 NESCAC) play host to Connecticut College at 2:30 p.m. Sunday. The new Colby Soccer Field and Bill Alfond Field will be dedicated at 10 a.m. Sunday.
Game highlights
* Colby had not given up a goal in the regular flow of play in the first two games. Tufts University scored its lone goal on a penalty kick, while Thomas College scored on an indirect kick.
* Williams needed a nice goal and got it at 22:59 of the first half off a header by Mark Sisco-Tolomeo. The Ephs had a deep throw-in about eight yards from the end line. Chris Fleischer had the throw to Kyle Brady, who quickly pushed the ball back to Fleischer. The pass back from Fleischer to Brady was quick and good enough to allow Brady space on a terrific cross to Sisco-Tolomeo near the penalty kick mark. Sisco-Tolomeo flicked the header to the right corner of the goal.
By the numbers
* The Mules had an 11-10 shot advantage, including a ball off the crossbar from Asa Berolzheimer at 62:54. The Ephs had a slight 5-4 edge in corner kicks.
* Bobby Schneiderman stopped two shots for the Williams shutout. Avery Gibson made five saves in goal for the Mules.
