WATERVILLE, Maine – Colby men's soccer opened their conference play at home against visiting Connecticut College. The Mules fell to the Camels 3-0, moving to 1-1 on the season.
Although the Mules brought fast paced, physical play from the start, the Camels' speed on offense helped them generate consistent pressure. Connecticut College opened scoring just 13:32 into play when Luke Stoneback headed in a corner kick from Matt Butera before quickly making the game 2-0 when Liam Noonan scored just four minutes later.
Play evened following the second goal, and the two teams traded scoring chances that were stifled by aggressive defense and goaltending. The Camels broke the drought, however, when Ben Ludwick buried a free kick at 69:21. The insurance goal would be more than enough for the Camels, who kept the Mules scoreless and earned a 3-0 victory.
The loss moves the Mules to 1-1 on the season. They play next at Maine Maritime Academy on Wednesday, September 11th at 6:30 PM EST.
