Men's squash wins opening round NESCAC match over Camels

MIDDLEBURY, Vt. -- The Colby College men's squash team advanced to the New England Small College Athletic Conference quarterfinal round after taking a 9-0 opening round win over Connecticut College on Friday.

The eighth-seeded Mules won six of the nine matches in straight sets over the ninth-seeded Camels. Colby will play against top-seeded Trinity College on Saturday at 10 a.m.
First position player Elliot Gross (pictured) won 11-5, 11-4, 11-6, while Alex Spafford cruised to an 11-6, 11-1, 11-6 at the second spot.
Colby's top five players all won in straight sets. Chase Holding took an 11-8, 11-3, 11-4 victory, Alex Kurtin won 11-4, 11-9, 11-5 at four, and Jason Brodo was an 11-7, 11-9, 11-5 winner at five.
Tyler Burt had the match of the night at the seventh spot. He lost the opening two sets 14-12 and 11-6. Burt then showed his poise by battling for a 17-15 third set win and used that momentum for 11-2 and 11-2 wins in the final two sets.
Ryan Santoro at six and Duda Voldman at nine both lost opening sets and then won three straight to close out their matches. 
Charlie Beauregard had the sixth straight set win at the eighth spot.
