Another school record for men's swimming and diving at league meet

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. -- The Colby College men's swimming and diving team set a third school record and nearly had two more on the second day at the NESCAC Championships on Saturday night at Wesleyan University.

The Mules have set three school records in two days, this time with a 1:33.40 clocking in the 200 medley relay. Xander Geiersbach, Carter Garfield, Matt Jones, and John Blackburn broke the record of 1:33.93 set in 2012.

Geiersbach (pictured) had a big day, also racing in the championship final and placing seventh in the 100 backstroke (51.51, 50.98 prelim). The school record is 50.87 set in 2006.

Garfield had an NCAA 'B' cut qualifying time of 56.76 in taking ninth and winning the consolation final. He is just 0.03 off the school record of 56.73.

Jones added an 18th in the 100 butterfly (51.41), putting him in the top five among Colby swimmers in the event.

Colby's 800 freestyle relay team of Garfield, Hugh Jacobsen, Geiersbach, and Blackburn placed 10th in 7:00.70.

The Mules dropped to 10th place in the standings with 348 points. However, Colby is just 12 points shy of last year''s three-day total and stand only four points out of ninth place.
