Men's tennis ends California trip with three straight wins

PASADENA, Calif. -- The 37th-ranked Colby College men's tennis team finished the trip to California with three straight victories after a 6-3 win over Caltech on Friday.

The Mules won 8-1 against St. Lawrence and 7-2 in a match at Occidental on Thursday.

Carl Reid went over 50 career singles wins and stands at 52-18 in his four years at first singles with the Mules. Meanwhile, Vlad Murad is at 40 career singles wins after a shutout victory Friday. Murad has a 40-20 record.  

Cam Hillier won at sixth singles and teamed with Shaw Speer for a victory at third doubles. Hillier and Speer provided the lone doubles win and Colby (8-3 overall) trailed 2-1 heading into singles play.

Reid won 6-1, 6-3 at first singles and Murad did not lose a game at the second spot. Scott Altmeyer also had an easy match at third singles in a 6-1, 6-1 win.

Zale Shah split the first two sets at fourth singles and won 6-3 in the third set.

Reid, Altmeyer, Shah, Nam Le, Jonathan Hallal, and Jimmy McGuire (pictured) won singles matches against St. Lawrence. Murad and Reid won at first doubles, while Altmeyer and Shah took the second doubles spot.
