Murad earns District I academic honor

WATERVILLE, Maine -- Colby College men's tennis player Vlad Murad (Bacau, Romania) was one of 11 student-athletes selected to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic District 1 At-Large Division III Team on Friday.

District 1 is made up of colleges in Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Vermont. The at-large team is made up of a number of sports such as ice hockey, lacrosse, field hockey, swimming and diving, golf, men's volleyball, wrestling, and tennis. Murad is now eligible for National Academic All-American honors.

Murad, who has the highest grade point average of any senior athlete at Colby, has had an eventful week. He was selected to play at the NCAA Division III Individual Championships on Wednesday.

Murad is 17-4 in singles play and finished doubles play with a 17-6 record. He has 94 career victories in singles and doubles heading into the national tourney.

Men's lacrosse player Tyler Olney of Tufts University is the only other NESCAC student-athlete to make the men's at-large team.
