LEWISTON, Maine -- Colby College men's tennis player Scott Altmeyer continues to have a fine fall season after making the 'A' flight semifinals of the Wallach Invitational at Bates College on Saturday.
Altmeyer (pictured) will meet Bowdoin College's Justin Wang in one semifinal Sunday. Amherst College's Kevin Ma and Bowdoin's Oscar Young play in the other semifinal.
Altmeyer had an opening round bye and then took a 6-2, 6-1 win over Chris Billcic of Trinity College in a round of 16 match. Altmeyer advanced to the semifinals with a 6-2, 6-2 victory against Nikhil Das of Brandeis University in a quarterfinal.
Colby's Garrett Reiter made the quarterfinal round of the 'B' flight. After a first round bye, Reiter captured a 6-4, 6-4 win against Travis Leaf of Skidmore College. He fell 6-3, 6-2 to Zach Bessette of Amherst in the final match.
In the 'C' Flight, Hans Hwang made the quarterfinal round after a 6-3, 6-2 win against Colt Tegtmeier of Brandeis in a round of 16 match. Hwang fell 6-2, 6-2 to Amherst's Harris Foulkes in the quarterfinals. Colby teammate Peter Messenger won 6-3, 7-6 (2) in the first round over Wheaton College's Jorge Aguirre Martinez, but then fell 6-1, 7-5 to Damien Ruparel of Amherst in the round of 16.
Altmeyer and Sumukh Pathi made the quarterfinal round of the 'A' flight doubles and nearly advanced to the semifinals. The pair took an 8-5 win over a team from Skidmore before falling 8-7 (6) in the quarters to a Bowdoin duo.
