MIDDLEBURY, Vt. -- Colby College's Scott Altmeyer had a fine start to the fall men's tennis season by giving up just six games over two matches in advancing to the semifinals of the 'A' Flight at the Middlebury Invitational on Saturday.
Altmeyer will play second-seeded Boris Sorkin of Tufts University in one semifinal at 1 p.m. Sunday. The championship match is scheduled for a 3 p.m. start.
Altmeyer took an easy 6-3, 6-0 win over third-seeded Noah Farrell of Middlebury College in the first round. He then cruised to a 6-1, 6-2 win over Skidmore College's Noah Williamson in a quarterfinal match.
In the upper bracket of the 'A' Flight, both the top-seeded and fourth-seeded players were upset in the first round.
