Fields masters the mass start again for fourth EISA win of the season

HANOVER, N.H. -- Colby College's Zane Fields has been the master of the mass start this year and it has paid off in four total victories after he won the 10-kilometer freestyle mass start at the Dartmouth Ski Carnival on Saturday.

Fields (pictured) has won mass starts at 20K (Vermont), 15K (Saint Michael's), and now at 10K. He also has a 10K classical victory and two second-place finishes in Eastern Intercollegiate Ski Association races.
Fields has been dominating in victory, winning Saturday by more than 14 seconds with a time of 25 minutes, 59.7 seconds. Dartmouth's Callan Deline was runner-up in 26:13.8.
In a field of 14 teams, Fields helped the Mules place fifth overall with 72 points. Foss Kerkner placed 41st in 28:16.1 and Sam Sinkler took 45th for Colby in 28:30.0.
The Colby women placed ninth overall behind a 23rd from Kirsten Miller (15:31.6). Claire Waichler took 33rd place in 15:48.3 and Skylar Tupper finished 38th with a 15:51.7.
The Mules will compete at the Williams Carnival next weekend and then ski at the Eastern Championships/Middlebury Carnival on February 23-24.
