LAKE PLACID, N.Y. -- All-American Zane Fields placed sixth for the Colby College men's Nordic ski team and Marin Coletta was ninth for the women in the Eastern Intercollegiate Ski Association opener Saturday in the St. Lawrence University Carnival.
Fields, who won six EISA races a year ago, had a time of 27 minutes, 34.3 seconds in the 10-kilometer skate. He was first among NESCAC racers. Fields was neck-and-neck for first place when he unfortunately fell in a downhill portion of the course.
Will Solow, a first-year, was second among Colby men in placing 36th with a 29:33.6.
Coletta (pictured left), who is just a sophomore, led three Colby women in the top 20 with her time of 16:18.8 in the 5K skate. Kirsten Miller placed 15th with a 16:34.7 and Skylar Tupper (pictured right) earned a top-20 finish by taking 20th in 16:37.1.
The Colby women placed fourth overall with 85 points, beating Bates College and Bowdoin College by 30 points. Cal Waichler, the Mules' top finisher at U.S. nationals, missed the race due to injury.
The Colby men finished in seventh place, but were within eight points of fourth place.
