WATERVILLE, Maine -- Zane Fields won the men's race and Cal Waichler was the women's winner for the Colby College Nordic ski teams at the 2018 Quarry Road Opener at Quarry Road Trails on Sunday.
Fields (pictured), an All-American last year and the most dominant male skier in the Eastern Intercollegiate Ski Association (EISA), won in a time of 17 minutes, 15.0 seconds. The Mules were competing against Bowdoin College, Harvard University, and some open class skiers.
Foss Kerkner took fifth place for the Mules in 17:47.2, Will Solow was seventh with an 18:20.8, Scott Harrison took eighth in 18:29.7, and Adlai Sinkler earned a top-10 finish by placing 10th in 18:47.2.
The men's team also took places 11 to 13 behind Mark Young (18:48.7), Torsten Brinkema (18:49.0), and Anders Hanson (18:49.2).
Waichler had a winning time of 20:37.0 in the open women's event. Marin Coletta took third with a 20:49.6, Kirsten Miller placed fifth with a 20:55.0, Talia Seltzer was eighth in 21:46.9, and Erin Bianco finished 10th with a 22:03.1.
Meg Yoder was 12th for the Mules in 22:22.6, Annika Martell finished 14th with a 22:24.4, Lillian Fisher took 16th in 22:52.0, and Emma Terwilliger was 17th in 23:40.0.
The Mules open the EISA season at the St. Lawrence University Carnival at Lake Placid on Saturday, Jan. 12.
