Four women in top 25, Fields 11th for Nordic skiers

RIPTON, Vt. -- The Colby College women's Nordic ski team had four finishers in the top 25 and Zane Fields placed 11th for the men in the 15-kilometer classic mass start at the Middlebury Carnival on Friday.

"It was a really hard waxing day," Colby head coach Tracey Cote said. "Our skis were a bit off for the men, but they fought hard in difficult conditions. We figured it out for the women and they skied really well."

Claire Waichler (pictured) finished in 16th place for the Mules in 31 minutes, 38.8 seconds in the women's 10K classic mass start. Kirsten Miller was a place behind in 17th with a 31:43.0.

Talia Seltzer took 24th place for the Mules in 32:11.5 to edge teammate Skylar Tupper with a 32:13.7 in 25th place. Erin Bianco made it five Mules in the top 30 by taking 29th in 32:42.4.

The Colby women, without lead skier Marin Coletta, placed fifth overall with a score of 76 and were just two points out of fourth place.

Fields, fresh off a victory last Friday at the Dartmouth Carnival, had a time of 40:16.7. Scott Harrison took 29th place in 42:16.8, while Will Solow finished 34th with a 42:29.7.

The Colby men placed eighth overall with 61 points.
