Balanced day for Nordic skiers

RIPTON, Vt. -- Zane Fields took sixth place for the Colby College men's Nordic ski team and Kirsten Miller led the women by taking 15th on the second day of the Middlebury College Carnival at Rikert Nordic Center on Saturday.
Fields had a time of 22 minutes, 36.1 seconds in the 10-kilometer freestyle race. 
Scott Harrison was 28th for the Colby men in 24:10.7 and teammate Carter Hall was 29th in 24:12.3. Will Solow finished 31st in 24:16.2, while Torsten Brinkema was 40th in 24:28.6.
The women's team also had nice balance on the day, with six skiers among the top 38. Miller (pictured) had a time of 13:55.7 in the 5K freestyle, while Marin Coletta took 17th in 13:59.3.
Cal Waichler had a time of 14:19.1 to take 27th place, Skylar Tupper had a 14:40.1 for 34th, Erin Bianco was 35th in 14:45.4, and Talia Seltzer finished 38th in 14:52.3.
Both Colby teams placed sixth overall on the day. The Nordic teams and the Colby alpine ski teams combined to take fourth place in the overall team score.
