Fields takes second on opening day of Eastern Championships

RUMFORD, Maine -- The Eastern Skiing Championships started Friday and Zane Fields is in his familiar place on the podium at the regional event at the Bates College Carnival on Black Mountain.

Fields, who won both Eastern Nordic races a year ago, took second place in the men's 10-kilometer skate. He had a time of 24 minutes, 2.5 seconds to help the Mules place fifth overall with 82 points.
Carter Hall was 29th for the Mules in 26:08.3, Will Solow finished 31st in 26:23.2, and Foss Kerker was 39th with a 26:52.8. 
The Colby women also placed fifth with 74 points behind a 16th from Claire Waichler (pictured) in a time of 14:06.0 in the 5K skate.
Marin Coletta placed 19th for the Mules in 14:12.5 and teammate Kirsten Miller was 23rd with a 14:15.3. Erin Bianco took 28th place (14:40.7), Skylar Tupper finished 35th in 14:59.4, and Talia Seltzer was 40th in 15:11.0.
