Fields, Waichler, Harrison lead Nordic teams at Easterns

RUMFORD, Maine -- Zane Fields placed seventh and Scott Harrison took 22nd place for the Colby College men's Nordic ski team at Saturday's Eastern Championships as part of the Bates College Carnival at Black Mountain.

Fields had a time of 53 minutes, 24.9 seconds in the 20-kilometer classic race. Harrison (pictured) finished in 55:09.5 and teammate Torsten Brinkema was 29th in 55:44.1. Will Solow had a 55:44.2 for 30th place to nearly tie Brinkema and Carter Hall placed 38th in 57:25.4.
 
Fields has four straight top-10 performances at the Eastern meet. He won both races last year and took second in Friday's 10K event. 
 
In the women's 15K classic, the Mules had five skiers between 21st and 34th place. Claire Waichler finished 21st with a 47:27.3, Erin Bianco was 24th in 47:53.1, and Kirsten Miller took 25th in 47:58.5. Marin Coletta placed 32nd in 48:55.9 and Skylar Tupper was 34th in 49:07.1.
 
The Colby men finished in a tie for fourth place, while the women placed seventh. Both the Nordic and alpine teams combined to take fifth.
