Softball team falls in single game to Jumbos

WATERVILLE, Maine -- Despite a two-run triple from Colby College's Vanessa Warshaw, Jamie Stevens had a three-run home run and Tufts University finished with 15 hits in five innings in a 12-4 victory in NESCAC East softball Saturday.

The Mules scored four times in the bottom of the fourth to stay in the game. With Ella Hommeyer on by a walk and Paige Hartnett with a single, Warshaw (pictured) had a triple to bring in both runners. Julia Saul followed with a double to bring in Warshaw and then eventually scored on a single by Wiley Holton.

The Jumbos improve to 18-6 overall and 7-2 in the conference, while the Mules fall to 1-18 overall and 0-6 in the league.

After a scoreless first inning, Emma Della Volpe had a two-run single in the second inning to bring in Stevens and Maria Ostapovich for a 2-0 lead.

The Jumbos added two more runs in the top of the third inning, including a steal of home by Kristina Haghdan. She came home after Colby was trying a rundown with Raven Fournier between first and second base.

Kristen Caporelli had an RBI triple to score Christian Cain in the top of the fourth inning. After Sofia Molina was hit by a pitch and Colby got a strikeout, Stevens homered to left field for an 8-0 lead.

The Jumbos matched those four runs in the top of the fifth. Caporelli had a two-run single and Kelsey Dion added an RBI single in the inning.
