LEWISTON, Maine. -- Colby Softball fell to Bates in all three games of the teams' season series, though not without some strong individual performances and solid team defense. In Friday's game, the first of the series, Laura Powell hit her first collegiate home run, a two-run shot that started to help Colby out of an early nine run deficit. First year Paige Bober drove in a third run in the inning but it was not enough to erase the Bobcat's lead, and Bates won 9-3. Carly Swartz added two hits, including a double, for the Mules, and seniors Wiley Holton and Holly Lallis provided the pitching.
Colby met Bates for a double header the following day. In the first game, Holly Lallis pitched all six innings effectively for the Mules, but Colby could only generate one hit and lost 4-0. Lucie Cunningham and Wiley Holton teamed up to pitch the final game. Despite some baserunners on offense and strong defensive play by middle infielders Ashley Ketchum and Laura Powell, the Mules fell 6-0.
Colby next takes the field in a double-header at home against Presque Isle on Sunday, April 7th.
