Softball takes early 5-0 lead in setback to Union

CLERMONT, Fla. -- The Colby College softball team had seven hits and four walks in a 14-6 loss to Union College in the Florida spring break trip Thursday.
 
The Mules also fell 8-0 to University of Wisconsin at Whitewater.
 
Union game highlights
* Emily Dougherty had two hits, drove in a run, and scored for the Mules (1-7 overall).
 
* Laura Powell walked twice, had one hit, scored twice, and drove in a run for Colby. Carly Swartz had a hit, walk, and drove in two runs. Hailey Rohall had a hit, run, and an RBI. Holly Lallis, who also had a run, and Lolo Niemiec both had one hit.
 
* Wiley Holton pitched 3.2 innings for the Mules and allowed two earned runs.
 
* The game was tight early, with the Mules jumping out to a 5-0 lead heading into the bottom of the third inning. Colby had a lone run in the first, three in the second, and one in the third.
 
* Union got going in the bottom of the third inning with five runs to tie the game. They added nine more runs over the next three innings.
 
Wisconsin-Whitewater game highlights
* Swartz had a nice overall day by adding a hit, a walk, and two stolen bases.
 
* Dougherty and Rohall had the other hits for the Mules. 
 
Next up
* The Mules (1-7) will finish their trip with a 9:30 game against University of Wisconsin at River Falls and a 1:15 p.m. contest against University of Wisconsin at Osh Kosh.
