WATERVILLE, Maine -- Cierra San Roman earned her third shutout of the season and McKinley Karpa scored the game-winning goal in just her second game with the Colby College women's hockey team in a 1-0 NESCAC win over Connecticut College on Saturday.
The Mules win their 10th game of the season in improving to 10-7-3 overall and 7-7-0 in the conference.
"I’m very impressed with how the team responded after dropping a close game last night," Colby head coach Holley Tyng said. "We made some changes today and the players were fully committed to each other and our game plan. Cierra was again outstanding in net."
* Karpa, a first-year transfer student from RIT, scored her first collegiate goal at 3:53 of the opening period from Tess Dupre and Lexi Cafiero. Dupre had her sixth assist of the season and Cafiero (pictured) recorded her fourth.
* With the Mules holding the 1-0 lead, the two teams combined for six penalties in the third period. Colby had to kill off two penalties in the final 10 minutes.
By the numbers
* San Roman allowed just one goal in Colby's two games with the Camels. She made 25 saves to record her third shutout of the season. San Roman has her save percentage up to .948 and goals against average down to 1.48.
* The two teams both had 25 shots and neither squad could score on the power play.
