Brunswick, Maine - Throughout a second half and overtime press by Bowdoin, Colby's defense stood strong and earned the tie against the in-state and NESCAC rivals.
The play was spread across both ends during the first half, with Colby taking the edge in shots 4-2. However, Bowdoin surged the field and kept possession at Colby's end during the second half, leading in shots 8-2 and corners 6-1. The play of the game came as the final seconds of the second half wound down. The Polar Bears kept feeding the goalie box, and a last second header went over the outstretched hands of Colby's keeper. Fortunately for the Mules, defender Sofia Oliveira was at the line to keep the ball out and clear to send the game to over time.
"We are really proud of this group and the total team effort," said Colby Head Coach Kristin Shaw. "We played some really good soccer today against a very tough opponent. Points in this league are hard to earn and today this team earned a very hard away point. We are looknig forward to seeing how we continue to grow as a team and develop throughout the season."
Colby is next in action this coming Saturday when they host Trinity College in another NESCAC battle.
