Women's tennis has two teams earn consolation final wins

NORTHAMPTON, Mass. -- Colby College women's tennis had two teams win consolation finals at the New England Women's Intercollegiate Tennis Tournament (NEWITT) on Sunday.

In the 'B' consolation finals, the first-year pairing of Callie Nesbitt and Isha Banerjee (pictured) took a 2-1 win over Mount Holyoke. Nesbitt took a 6-0, 6-1 win in singles to clinch the match. Nesbitt and Banerjee started play with an 8-4 win in doubles.
In the 'C' consolation finals, senior co-captain Maddie Lupone and junior Emily Dyckman also won by a 2-1 score in a match against Gordon College. Lupone came from behind for a 2-6, 6-4, (12-10) win in her singles match. Lupone was down 10-9 in the super tiebreaker, but scored the final three points. Dyckman won 6-2, 7-6 in her singles match.
The two Colby teams combined to go 7-4 in team matches and 17-7 in individual play.
Nesbitt and Banerjee fell 3-0 to a team from Brandeis to go to the consolation bracket. The Colby pair then won 3-0 against Mount Holyoke and took a 2-1 win over Babson. Nesbitt fought back from 5-2 down in the second set for a 6-4, 7-6 win in her singles match against Babson.
In the 'C' early rounds, Lupone won her singles match in a 2-1 loss on the opening day of play. Lupone and Dyckman went to the consolation round and took a 2-1 win over a combination team of Amherst/Babson and a 2-1 victory against Gordon. Dyckman won at singles against Amherst/Babson, while Lupone took her match over Gordon.
In 'D' draw play, Colby's Hania Lenderking and Molly Higgins fell 3-0 to Trinity College on the first day. The pair fell in the consolation finals by a 2-1 score to Wheaton. Higgins won in a super tiebreaker by a 10-8 score in her singles match.
