Garrett fourth in hammer throw at New England D3 meet

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. --- A week after winning the New England Small College Athletic Conference title, Colby College's Michaela Garrett placed fourth in the hammer throw at the New England Division III Women's Track and Field Championships on Friday.

Garrett had a throw of 164 feet, 9 inches to finish first among NESCAC throwers. Springfield College's Carly Markos won the title with a toss of 170-10. Garrett threw over 174 feet last weekend at the NESCAC meet.
 

Sophie Stokes Cerkvenik (pictured) qualified for Saturday's 100 hurdles final with a 12.91 clocking. She was tied for sixth place in the prelims.

Sara Friedland placed 14th in the 100 dash (12.91), while Julia Rembetsy Brown was 20th in the long jump (15-2.25).
 

After four events in the heptathlon, senior Jenna Athanasopoulos has 2,540 points and is in fifth place after placing third in the shot put (33-3.75), fourth in the 200 dash (27.41), fifth in the 100 hurdles (15.92), and tied for eighth in the high jump (4-10.25). The final three events will take place Saturday. Colby first-year Emma O'Hara had 2,199 points and is 12th overall while taking ninth in the 100 hurdles (16.27), 12th in the 200 (28.37), 14th in the high jump (4-7.75), and 16th in the shot put (25-3.5).
