WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. – Colby outdoor track and field competed at the Williams Last Chance Meet this past weekend. The meet served as a final opportunity for athletes to qualify for the NCAA Championships. To do so, athletes needed to be ranked in the top 22 in the country for their respective event, based on their top times and results during the season.
Senior Rachel Leonard had the top performance of the day, recording a personal best of 56.65 in the 400 m that moved her into 15th nationally for the event and secured her spot at nationals. First year Annah Rossvall also ran a personal best of 59.60 in the 400 m, but it was not enough to qualify.
Senior Sophie Stokes Cerkvenik ran a 14.23 in the 100 m hurdles, just 0.04 seconds off her best time on the season. She is ranked sixth in the country heading into nationals for the event. First year Christie Woodside also competed in the 100 m hurdles, running a 15.24.
The 4x100 m relay team of Rossvall, Leonard, Stokes Cerkvenik, and Woodside ran the team's top time of the season in 48.56, but missed qualifying for nationals by less than a second.
First year Sharde Johnson also competed in the high jump, recording 1.64 meters. Her jump was her second highest of the season but left her 0.03 meters shy of qualification.
Stokes Cerkvenik and Leonard will compete for the Mules at the Division III National Championships in Ohio starting May 23.
