Volleyball nearly pulls out second set in setback

BRUNSWICK, Maine -- The Colby College volleyball team had a 16-11 lead in the second set, but Bowdoin College tied the match at 19-19 and went on to take a 3-0 victory in NESCAC play Friday night at Morrell Gymnasium.

The Mules (1-4 overall, 0-1 NESCAC) were playing a league match for the first time. Colby heads to Tufts University for a 1 p.m. conference match Saturday.
Match highlights
* Colby fell by set scores of 25-13, 25-22, 25-11.
* The Mules had 13 kills in the second set and led 10-5 after a kill by setter Emily Moslener (pictured). Colby still led 16-11 on a kill by sophomore Nicole Petherbridge.
* The Polar Bears chipped away at the lead and eventually tied the match at 19-19 on a kill by Michelle Albright. With the score 20-20, Bowdoin won five of the next seven points to go up 2-0.
* Paige Hanssen led the Mules with 11 kills and 12 defensive digs. Petherbridge added six kills and a pair of blocks, while Moslener finished with 19 assists and 11 digs. Elizabeth Middlebrook added four kills and 10 digs.
