Gorman, Chavey finish 1-2 for women at Maine State meet

BRUNSWICK, Maine -- Sophia Gorman (pictured) won the Maine State Championship and teammate Helen Chavey took second place for the Colby College women's cross country team on Saturday at Bowdoin College.

There were 18 total teams at the meet, but scoring was broken down for the 18 teams and for the 12 Maine squads. Gorman was second overall with a time of 22 minutes, 4.7 seconds over the 3.73-mile course. Chavey finished in 22:16.8. 
Gorman, a sophomore, and Chavey helped Colby finish second in the Maine meet and place fourth overall. Brandeis won the 18-team meet behind overall winner Emily Bryson (21:37.7).
Hannah Springhorn was 27th overall and 15th in the Maine meet, while teammate Sonia Tremblay was 29th and took 16th in the state meet. First-year Meredith Griffin placed 53rd for the Mules.
